Susie

SusieSusie began running in her mid 30s and due to her sister’s influence became a marathoner at the age of 40. In the midst of learning a new sport, she realized that the new runner and walker were not being targeted in this market, and so began the evolution of Up and Running. A few years of training in other stores, a bank loan and a bunch of support from friends and we now have Up and Running! If she isn’t in the store, she is training on a bike, in a pool, on the trails & roads…trying to keep up with the rest of the people at UAR.  Susie somehow finds the time to compete in races from 5K to marathon, and sprint triathlons to Half Ironman races!  Part of her training consists of chasing/keeping up with a few youngsters around the store.

Brandice

BrandiceBrandice was the first friend to help, way back in the very beginning of UAR. Her active lifestyle and willingness to help was and is a tremendous comfort. Brandice has taken and taught probably every type of workout class, along with becoming an avid runner enjoying the trails!  In her free time, Brandice and her husband John, enjoy a life full of travel and social gatherings with great friends who are family!

Joan

JoanWe are lucky to have had Joan working at UAR since our first year in business! Joan is like most of us, she is willing try anything. She began running and coaching with Team In Training and then became a triathlete. Joan competed in her first 1/2 Ironman race in the summer of 2009. On top of all that, Joan works out regularly at the gym, enjoys long distance rides, volunteers with noon optimist and finds time to support her husband and two children in all their adventures!

Nickie

NickieNickie has never met a sport or activity she didn’t like.  She grew up on the soccer field, and continued her career for the women’s team at the University of Cincinnati. Whether she is riding a mountain bike or road bike, skiing, trail or road running, hiking, camping or climbing a big rock, she is outside moving and enjoying every minute of it. Nickie brings a youthful exuberance to UAR that cannot be matched.  Outside of UAR, Nickie fills her days logging many hours training for triathlon, competing in Olympic to Ironman Distance Races, most recently qualifying for Kona 2012.

Maria

MariaMaria started spending hours at UAR training for a marathon with Team in Training, and now we are happy to have her as part of our full time team!  Maria enjoys running and cycling. Maria’s running accomplishments include qualifying and running in the Boston Marathon. Maria brings an infectious smile, great energy, and a wealth of knowledge to Up and Running!

Jean

Jean is affectionately known as Green Jean, because she maintains all of our lovely plants! She was a customer first, and was such a nice visitor occasionally that when she asked, “Can I visit 2 days a week?” The answer was a resounding heck yes! Jean fills much of her time at sporting events supporting her two active boys, but still finds early morning hours to train with her friends running on the roads & trails and heading out on her bike.  If you want a personal shopper or a LOLE ambassador, Jean is your gal.

David

DavidWe are quite sure you have seen David somewhere in Dayton. As a former college cross country athlete, David has now become a well known coach in the Dayton area. In the spring he coaches track for Oakwood High School and in the fall he coaches cross country for the Centerville High School girls’ team.  And in the off season he usually finds time to log many miles himself, competing in 50K trail races! This very busy and talented coach also has a full family life with a lovely wife and three children.

Ann

AnnAnn comes to Up and Running from the University of Dayton where she was the former women’s cross country coach. After having a baby boy last September, she is back to marathon training and ran the 2012 Olympic Trials. In 2008 Ann placed 7th at the Olympic Trials Marathon. When Ann is not running or working she enjoys chasing her son around and spending time with her husband.

Nancy

NancyNancy a Dayton native and ‘retired’ accountant, is now away from the numbers game having fun at Up and Running. In the hours away from Up and Running Nancy enjoys spending time with her four children and husband. She is an avid traveler, and if found in Dayton she is probably researching/planning her next adventure! In June 2004 Nancy started walking and training for the Avon 2 day/39mile breast cancer event in Chicago, and she continues to enjoy the sport of walking and running at times! Ask her about our pilates clothing, she LOVES her pilates and aqua jogging classes!

Jason

JasonJason has been “Up and Running” since before he had an official team to do it with. While he enjoys most sports and outdoor activities, running was by far his favorite and the most liked within his whole family. He continued to run throughout his middle school, high school, and college years representing Southern Illinois University. Jason is fully involved in marathon training and ran in the Olympic Trials in Houston 2012.  After the 2012 trials, Jason is looking to continue his educational career in medical school. Originally from Northwest Ohio, Jason now lives in Bellbrook and should be easy to find since he is usually logging a lot of miles in his free time!

Paul

Paul comes from an entirely different background, water not land! Paul swam in college for Bowling Green and now he swims and coaches for the Dayton Swim & Tri Masters Team. In addition, Paul has competed in half marathons, full marathons,  2 Ironman races! Paul has a background in education and currently works full time for Up and Running.

Louise

Louise, a devoted wife and mother of three daughters, brings an exuberance of joy to Up and Running.  A loyal Up and Running customer, she always brought her three field hockey players in for shoes.  We asked her to join the team, and she was tearful, that is the big heart we love about Louise.  In her spare time she enjoys power walking, watching many field hockey games and cooking.  Our fridge is fully stocked with the best food from scratch, what did we eat before you arrived?!  Ask for her baked oatmeal or powerbar recipe next time you visit!  Need some run tech or Lole fashion advice, Louise is your woman!

Anne

After spending a few years running and swimming with UAR groups, Anne figured she spent enough time at the store– why not work there? Though she hasn’t been a lifelong runner, she’s spent the last few years  making up for lost time, having completed 3 marathons, several triathlons and an IronMan. When she’s not training, she works at the University of Cincinnati and Miami Valley Hospital as a professor and pharmacist,  teaching pharmacy students that life in a hospital unfortunately isn’t as glamorous as Gray’s Anatomy or House may suggest. In what little free time she has left, she’s busy maintaining a farm, complete with chickens, turkeys, pigs…and a husband.

Sarah

A Cali native as Sarah would describe herself.  Sarah recently moved to Dayton with her husband and wanted to “volunteer” at Up and Running.  We said sure!  Now you will find Sarah most days of the week at UAR!  Sarah’s energy is awesome to have around, and her love for chocolate is not to go unnoticed.  She has a passion for the trails of California and is now enjoying the discovery of Dayton’s trails!  Sarah is a shoe “geek” and loves logging lots of long miles.  Sarah has a handful of 1/2 marathons and marathons on her legs!  Now she is tackling the 50K distance, and then on to the JFK 50miler this fall!

Heather

Heather comes to UAR Troy with a background in marathons and triathlons. She has become passionate about CrossFit and combining strength training with endurance. With experience as a collegiate athlete, youth cross country coach, high school track coach, and personal trainer/group fitness instructor, Heather spends the majority of her time in some sort of fitness facility. When she is not sweating or making others perspire, she enjoys spending time with her husband (which typically includes making/building new gym equipment or visiting friends at other gyms!).

Maria

We are happy Maria loves morning runs, especially since that found her passing the Up and Running building progress in Troy!  As she kept running by watching the progress, we found one of our first Troy staff members!  Maria is always on the go, juggling a full time job and spending her evenings and weekends at Up and Running in Troy!  She loves sports, especially a little sand volleyball the in the summer.  Maria has also completed in a variety of races ranging from 5K’s to 10k’s!

Katie

Katie was one of our first customers in Troy and during her fit process she started greeting customers, we thought, lets hire her!  Katie has a passion for fitness, whether that be participating in a Muddy Buddy Race, a local 5K for charity, or running 1/2 marathons, she’s always on the go.  Katie splits her time between the Troy Newspaper and Up and Running.  Be ready, she’s full of energy!

Carrie

Another one of our Troy staff members, Carrie recently moved to the area with her husband.  We were excited to connect with the local run group in Troy and find Carrie! Carrie is an accomplished triathlete, 2012 Kona Qualifier.   When she’s not in the pool, on the rode cycling or running, Carrie is most likely spending time at UAR!  Carrie also is a coach for GOTR Dayton!

Nalin

Nalin, an avid athlete,  grew up playing soccer and basketball and continued to follow his passion for the sport playing at the college level.  He is now an avid crossfit competitior, Level 1 Certified Crossfit Trainer and  USA Weightlifting Sport Performance Coach.  Nalin spends his days outside of working out, building fitness equipment and working at Up and Running!
