Saving Your Knees and Hips

Surgical Options for Runners to Preserve Joints

Whether you are a long-time runner or recently joined the sport, chances are you will encounter knee or hip pain at some point during training – either from wear-and-tear or an acute injury. When conservative treatments don’t bring enough pain relief, surgery may be the answer.

Join Eric Fester, MD, of Premier Orthopedics, to learn about knee and hip surgical options that preserve joints – rather than replace them – so you may be able to continue running.

Dr. Fester will discuss a range of knee and hip preservation treatments:

  • Cartilage restoration for knees, including a newer procedure recently refined and approved by the FDA called MACI (Matrix-Induced Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation) where cartilage taken from the patient is grown and re-implanted in the patient’s knee.
  • Hip arthroscopy, which is a minimally invasive procedure that removes bone growths caused by hip impingement – a common condition among young athletic individuals.
